Raines defensive lineman Jyon Simon commits to Rutgers University

Simon is a three-star recruit that had 24 offers to play collegiate football.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — William M. Raines High School junior, defensive lineman Jyon Simon, officially committed to play college football at Rutgers University.

Simon had 24 offers and cut that list down to eight finalists including USC (University of Southern California), Colorado, Pittsburgh, Texas, NC State, Jacksonville State, and Tennessee.

"They were always in the front, but it was always a tie with my recruiting process with NC State and Rutgers. I went to New Jersey and it put them over the top," said Simon. "Definitely relationships, player-to-coaches relationships, schemes, them not worrying about my size but my ability to play."

Last season, Simon had 77 total tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, and nine sacks.

The 6-foot-2, 260-pounder, now has to wait until 2025 to begin playing for the Scarlet Knights and says his goal for this upcoming football season is to win a state title.
