Fernandina Beach Police detective arrested on sexual battery charges

John Lee Finley, 33, was arrested on Friday night in Nassau County. He's being held in Duval County jail without bond.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An officer with the Fernandina Beach Police Department has been arrested on accusations of sexual battery.

John Lee Finley, 33, was arrested on Friday night in Nassau County, according to police said. He was a detective, but he has been fired, police said.

Nassau County Sheriff's Office said that a victim came forward with "date rape" allegations against Finley on May 30, according to a sheriff's office news release. An investigation found "probable cause" to charge Finely with sexual battery and battery stemming from the incident, which occurred while he was off duty, the news release states.

Fernandina Beach police has "full confidence that the Nassau County Sheriff's Office conducted a thorough and complete investigation," a Monday news release from the police department states.

Finely previously worked with the Baker County Sheriff's Office. He is being held without bond in Duval County.
