4 shootings in Jacksonville in less than a day: 4 dead, 3 injured

Police reported a fatal shooting at 2:45 a.m., a triple homicide at 12:30 p.m. and two nonfatal shootings into the afternoon.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office held a press briefing Sunday night on two nonfatal shootings in the city, both which took place earlier in the afternoon.

These shootings are the third and fourth reported by JSO in less than 24 hours.

There have now been 16 shootings in Jacksonville in 2023 -- an average of about one per day. Eight of those shootings have had a fatality.

The first shooting reported Sunday took place in the 1200 block of Labelle Street at about 4 p.m. The victim was a 19-year-old male who was found with a gunshot wound to the arm, police said. 

He was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. The suspect in that shooting has not been found.

The second shooting, which is completely unrelated, happened in the 2200 block of Luana Drive East.

That victim was a teenage girl who was shot in the torso. She is in stable condition at a local hospital, police said. 

Police said everyone involved is in custody.

Triple homicide near Copper Hill

A triple homicide is under investigation near the Copper Hill neighborhood in Jacksonville after police found three people who appeared to have been shot dead.

Police said they responded to a home in the 11000 block of Bridges Road at 12:30 p.m.

They found a man and woman dead inside the home, as well as a man outside the home.

Very little is known about the crime at this time. Police are working to canvas the neighborhood and obtain a search warrant into the home.

Police are looking for a vehicle that may be related to the crime but did not give a description.

Shooting on 1-95

The first shooting of the day was reported at 2:45 a.m.

Police said two women between ages 25 and 35 were shot inside of a vehicle driving on I-95 Northbound near the I-10 East Interchange.

Both women were taken to to the hospital. One of them died in surgery and the other is in critical condition.

According to JSO, the shooting happened while the vehicle was in motion.
