Jacksonville man killed in early morning crash on I-95 in St. Johns County

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2:20 a.m. and closed all northbound lanes of Interstate 95 for several hours.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A Jacksonville man is dead after a crash at County Road 210 in St. Johns County early Wednesday morning.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2:20 a.m. and closed all northbound lanes of Interstate 95 for several hours. Traffic was being diverted at International Golf Parkway to U.S. 1, causing major backups and delays.

FHP said a sedan and auto transport carrier were traveling northbound on I-95, south of County Road 210.

Authorities believe the sedan was either traveling very slowly or stopped within the center lane of I-95.

The auto transport carrier hit the sedan, which caused the car to run off the road and crash into the guardrail.

The auto transport vehicle then ran off the road to the right shoulder and overturned before coming to a final stop.

The driver of the sedan, identified as a 56-year-old man, was pronounced dead due to his injuries from the crash, FHP said.

No injuries were reported from the driver of the auto transport carrier.
