Navy Federal Credit Union responds following delays in direct-deposits

If you're a member of Navy Federal Credit Union and noticed a delay in direct deposits to your account, you're not alone.

If you're a member of Navy Federal Credit Union and noticed a delay in direct deposits to your account, you're not alone.

A concerned member contacted First Coast News Thursday after she couldn't get answers.

A spokesman for Navy Federal says direct deposits are back to normal, but it’s the lack of communication that has one family looking for a new place to do their banking.

“I kept checking our account overnight and it was in the negative, which didn’t make sense cause we had money in there," said Merielle Peacock.

Peacock says she should’ve seen over a thousand dollars from her husband’s work in her account Wednesday night as it’s set up through direct deposit.

Money they hoped to use for last minute Christmas gifts for her two children.

“To wake up to having our money gone and the paycheck that was supposed to post didn’t and not be able to get a hold of somebody, that’s not ok," Peacock said.

A Navy Federal Credit Union Spokesman told us some members began experiencing a delay in posting deposits, like Peacock, and deposits are back to normal.

While Peacock has her money, she says the 11 hours of wondering what was going on is worrisome.

“I called and kept getting a busy signal, then someone hung up on me," Peacock said. "I had to go online to Facebook to find it, they didn’t even post something on their website or anything like that so that was really frustrating for us.”

Emails to Navy Federal Credit Union asking the reason for the delay and how many customers were affected have not been returned.

Peacock says this is the second issue she’s had in a week, last week it was mobile banking.

“Navy Federal has continued to show that they are a great business to be with, but for the past week and a half it hasn’t been that case and that’s just not a risk we can take as a young family. We will definitely be switching banks," Peacock said.

A Navy Federal Spokesman says you if you have questions to call their contact center or visit a branch.
