Neptune Beach COVID-19 testing site again reaches capacity shortly after opening

The site will resume offering tests at 7 a.m. Thursday, according to Telescope Health, which runs the site.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — (Editor's Note: The video above is from a previous report)

Wednesday for the second day in a row, a city-funded Neptune Beach COVID-19 testing site reached capacity shortly after opening.

The site will resume offering tests at 7 a.m. Thursday, according to Telescope Health, which runs the site.

The city of Jacksonville used federal relief money to sponsor the site in the old Kmart shopping center in partnership with Telescope Health. City officials said the demand exhausted the city's initial round of funding.

Chief Administrative Officer Brian Hughes did not have a dollar figure for continuing the operation but said the administration might bring a request to the City Council at its meeting next Tuesday.

Many area testing sites and pharmacies have reported high demand amid rapidly rising cases of the virus. To search testing locations across Florida, go to floridahealthcovid19.gov/testing-sites. Also, the city's website provides a list of testing sites at jaxready.com/SpecialPages/virus/COVID-19-Testing-Information but notes that availability is subject to change. The sites include:
