Police: Man found shot to death in Ortega apartment parking lot

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the victim between the age of 20 to 25 was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene Monday afternoon.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting on Collins Road in Ortega that left a man dead Monday afternoon. 

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, at approximately 3:20 p.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to 4925 Collins Road in reference to a shooting. 

JSO said when officers arrived, they found a man shot multiple times lying in the parking lot of an apartment complex. 

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by crews with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. Police said the victim was between the ages of 20 and 25. 

JSO received multiple calls reporting gunshots heard in the area prior to police arrival. The weapon used in the shooting was a rifle, according to JSO. 

Detectives are canvassing the area for any surveillance video and possible witnesses.

Police said they do not have a description of a possible suspect, although there were several people who were at the apartment complex at the time of the shooting.

This deadly shooting adds to the half a dozen shootings across Jacksonville that left seven people hurt in the last two days. 

"There's a lot of violence, and we are just asking for the community's help," said JSO Sgt. Steve Rudlaff. "A lot of people have seen these shootings and a lot of people have heard about them."
