Police believe the fire could have started in the home's kitchen area, though the official cause remains under investigation.

"The house is pretty destroyed. So, it's gonna take a little while for the investigation to actually figure out the cause of the fire," said JSO Sgt. Steve Rudlaff.

At this time, no foul play is suspected, Rudlaff added.

Members of JSO's Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit were on the scene coordinating investigation efforts with the State Fire Marshal's Office.

Right now, police are working to identify the victim and reach out to the victim's family members.

Anyone with information on the address where the fire occurred or victim is asked to contact JSO's non-emergency number at (904) 630-0500 or email jsocrimetips@jaxsheriff.org.
