Man arrested in Saturday's fatal shooting used gun stolen from 2018 unlocked car

Police said that Carlos Roberto Ramos Carias was charged with murder, tampering with a witness and aggravated assault.

The man arrested in Saturday morning's fatal shooting used a stolen gun taken from an unlocked vehicle in 2018 to commit the crime, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said they responded to the area of Copper and Drum Streets around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, in reference to reports of a burglary.

On the scene, police found a man dead from a gunshot wound with a knife in his hand, according to JSO.

The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Carlos Roberto Ramos Carias, was also at the scene and was taken into custody by police for questioning.

JSO determined that two women had received a ride home from the victim after being at a club. Earlier that night one of the women had her phone taken by Carias, whom she had previously been in a relationship with.

Police said the victim along with both women went to Carias house to retrieve the phone. While there, Carias confronted the group and a short exchange was had between the victim, Carias and one of the women.

A witness then observed Carias remove a gun from his waistband and shoot the victim, according to JSO. The witness said Carias then pointed the gun at one of the women in a "threatening manner'.

The witness told police that the victim did not have anything in his hand at the time the shooting happened. The witness saw Carias place a knife in the victim's hand, police said.

JSO said the weapon used by Carias was a firearm that was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on San Pablo Road in 2018, that he purchased from a person on the street.

Carias was charged with murder, tampering with a witness and aggravated assault.
