KINGSLAND, Georgia — A Kingsland, Georgia man who shot his wife as she tried to run from him pleaded guilty to murder and aggravated assault Wednesday, according to District Attorney Keith Higgins.
On August 7, 2023, Octavin Grace, 43, pointed a handgun at his wife, Ruby English. She went into her bedroom and barricaded the door with furniture. She then called her parents, who attempted to talk Grace down. He said he was going to shoot English.
That's when she jumped from the window of her second-story apartment window. Grace followed her down and shot her twice, in her chest and torso, killing her.
The Kingsland Police Department caught Grace when he fled into the woods.
A property landscaper saw the shooting, and it was caught on video. Grace confessed to the murder.
Grace negotiated a plea deal in order to be sentenced to life with the possibility of parole. He will concurrently serve 20 years for the aggravated assault charge.
He will not be eligible for parole for 30 years.
