JSO said in September that it believed the person of interest fled the apartment complex on foot following the shooting.

Officers responded to the scene around 1:47 a.m., in reference to a person shot.

When they arrived, officers found three people shot; a 29-year-old man, 12-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy.

The victims were taken to the hospital where the 6-year-old was pronounced dead.

The two children who were shot were asleep in their beds when a single bullet struck both of them, killing the 6-year-old, Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said in September.
