NASSAU COUNTY, FLORIDA, Fla. — A Jacksonville woman received a 10-year federal prison sentence last week after she was trafficking "substantial quantities" of meth and fentanyl the past two years.

Annette Jones, 37, was charged with for conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine. She entered a guilty plea on Nov. 16, records show.

The case, which was investigated by numerous federal agencies and the Nassau County Sheriff's Office, said Jones was part of a drug trafficking organization that distributed large quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl in Jacksonville between 2020 and 2023, with Jones responsible for distributing over 50 kilograms of methamphetamine and over 5 kilograms of fentanyl.

Between December 2022 and February 2023, investigators said Jones sold more than 1 kilograms of methamphetamine to an undercover law enforcement officer, including a loaded firearm with an extended magazine. On March 15, 2023, federal agents and local law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Jones’ residence and recovered two loaded firearms, including one that had been reported stolen, according to court documents.

In a statement, Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said collaborative efforts between federal and local agencies can combat drugs like fentanyl in the community.

"As sheriff of this county, I can't stress enough that we are working diligently to get these dangerous drugs like fentanyl off the street. I'm happy to say we have another dangerous criminal behind bars who won't be able to kill any more people with this poison," Leeper wrote.
