JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A murder investigation is underway after the body of an 18-year-old man was found near the Florida State College of Jacksonville's South Campus Sunday afternoon, prompting police activity at the campus Monday morning.

The victim has been identified as Deshawn Terell Minor, 18, according to JSO. Minor was arrested back in June for multiple car burglaries in Nassau County.

Terrell's body was found at 2:45 p.m. in the woods near the 1700 block of Marina Drive. Deputies say the body appeared to be in severe stages of decomposition.

The school issued a security alert around 8:47 a.m. Monday. The alert stated that police activity was in progress on South Campus in West Parking Lot near perimeter road. It also said the activity wasn't associated with FSCJ.

First Coast News drove by the area and saw several cruisers with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on the western side of campus, including several crime scene vans. The area was blocked off with crime scene tape.

The alert advises students to avoid the area if possible.
