Damage being reported around the First Coast due to EF1 tornado Thursday

The Tornado Watch most counties on the First Coast were under Thursday has been cancelled, except for in Flagler. A tornado has been confirmed in St. Johns County.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Update: An EF1 tornado has been confirmed to have touched down in St. Johns County. This means the peak winds were 100 mph. One person sustained minor injuries.

Reports of damage amid severe weather on the First Coast Thursday is being sent to First Coast News.

St. Johns County

A tornado has been confirmed offshore in St. Johns County. Reports coming into First Coast News have mentioned damaged being caused from it in the county's World Golf Village area.

In the Samara Lakes neighborhood Alex Dominguez had three trees fall in his backyard and partially onto his home. 

Dominguez, his next-door neighbor, Ahmar Abbasi, and another neighbor all picked up hammers and gorilla tape and got to work. 

"We were able to spend some time and we got together I got my I got my neighbors up on my roof here and everybody became the hammer everybody's chipping in and I think that was amazing," Dominguez said. 

Dominguez and his neighbors also helped out another neighbor nearby with their roof. 

Several roofs in the neighborhood were damaged by the tornado. Jeremy Filat with ELO Roofing was taking a look at different roofs all day. 

"I've been doing this probably about three years now. And in St. Johns County, Northeast Florida this is probably one of the worst storms that I've seen you know with this damage so yeah, it looks like a catastrophe," Filat said.

Columbia County

At approximately 4:30 Thursday, Columbia County Fire Rescue says units responded to a semi-truck accident with "minor entrapment." The incident was the result of a tree falling that the driver of the semi was unable to avoid, authorities say.

No one was injured, according to fire rescue.

Nassau County

Martha Oberdorfer with Nassau County Emergency Management tells First Coast News that Amelia Island is receiving wind gusts, as wires are down at 1030 Buccaneer Trail.

Due to the downed wires, Buccaneer Trail at McArthur Estates is closed until Florida Power Utilities addresses the powerlines in the road, according to Oberdorfer.
