Fatal crash involving elementary school bus in Sandalwood area

There were seven students on the bus at the time of the crash but there were no reported injuries to them or the bus driver.

One woman has died following a crash with a school bus on Thursday in the Sandalwood area.

The Florida Highway Patrol said that Brenda Snodgrass, 63, was driving in a Toyota Camry when she struck a school bus at the intersection of Atlantic Boulevard and Withrow Drive near Kernan Boulevard.

All eastbound lanes were blocked for around seven hours as crews worked to clear the area.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said Snodgrass had to be extracted from her vehicle and was transported to a local hospital where she later died.

There were seven students on the bus at the time of the crash but there were no reported injuries to them or the bus driver.

The students were safely transported to their schools, which are Sabal Palm and Waterleaf Elementary Schools.  

Duval County Public Schools released the following statement:

"We are saddened to learn of the passing of a community member involved in a collision with one of our school buses. The staff members and the seven students who were on the bus are safe and have been safely transported to their schools which are Sabal Palm and Waterleaf elementary schools. On behalf of Duval County Public Schools, we extend our condolences to the families and involved parties during this difficult time."
