3 deadly crashes overnight across Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol responded to three deadly crashes overnight across Jacksonville.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Three people were killed in three separate crashes across Jacksonville overnight Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol.

A pedestrian died in a crash involving a Hyundai on the Southside Wednesday night around 10.

The crash happened on Southside Boulevard at Cargal Street and involved a white Hyundai, FHP said. The victim, a 77-year-old man, was confirmed dead at the scene.

According to a report from FHP, the Hyundai was traveling south on Southside Boulevard in the left lane and the pedestrian was walking east alongside his bicycle on Southside Boulevard. The driver had a green light and went through the intersection when the pedestrian failed to yield the right of way and walked into the path of the vehicle, the report says.

That's when the front of the Hyundai hit the pedestrian, who died from his injuries.

The FHP report says the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

A woman was killed in a single-car crash in Jacksonville's Hillcrest area. JSO said the woman was driving westbound in the 5300 block of Park Street, drove off the roadway and hit a tree.

When JSO and Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department crews arrived, the woman was discovered inside the vehicle. JFRD tried to save the woman's life, but she did not survive.

Police have not yet determined what caused the crash. Traffic Homicide detectives are handling the investigation.

Around 2:20 a.m., JSO responded to another single-vehicle crash on the Northside. Police found two people in the vehicle that crashed into Lem Turner Collision Center.

JFRD pronounced one of the victims dead at the scene. The other was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

JSO's Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash.
