23-year-old killed in fiery Columbia County crash on Christmas Day

The Florida Highway Patrol said both of the drivers involved in the crash were from out of state.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 23-year-old man from Tennessee is dead after a fiery crash on Interstate 75 in Columbia County early Christmas morning.

The man, who was driving a silver sedan, was traveling in the right lane of I-75 North near Mile Marker 426 at the time of the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At approximately 4:45 a.m. Monday, the sedan struck the back of a trailer that was being pulled by a van.

After crashing into the back of the trailer, the sedan veered off the roadway and caught fire, FHP said.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The 71-year-old van driver from California suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.

FHP is currently investigating the cause of the crash.
