1 dead, 1 hospitalized after Ferrari flips, crashes in Ponte Vedra Beach

The sheriff's office says the men were traveling northbound in a convertible Ferrari in the 800 block of Ponte Vedra Boulevard when the driver of the vehicle failed to navigate a turn.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — One man is dead and another is seriously injured after both were ejected from a vehicle in Ponte Vedra Beach early Sunday morning, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office says the men were traveling northbound in a convertible Ferrari in the 800 block of Ponte Vedra Boulevard when the vehicle crossed over the southbound lanes and struck a curb, causing the driver of the vehicle to lose control.

The Ferrari then ran off the road, striking an electrical box and multiple trees before flipping over and ejecting both men from the car, according to deputies.

Forty-two-year-old James Richardson was killed in the crash and the other occupant, Jeffery L. Richmond Jr., 41, remains hospitalized in Jacksonville.

Deputies do not know which occupant was driving.
