Jaguars release wide receiver Zay Jones, kicker Joey Slye

The Jacksonville Jaguars organization announced on Tuesday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Tuesday, the Jaguars announced they released wide receiver Zay Jones and kicker Joey Slye.

The news broke less than a week after the Jaguars picked wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., in the first round of the draft.

Jones, the 29-year-old, totaled 34 catches for 321 yards and two scores over nine games last season. He missed eight games because of injuries to his knee and hamstring.

In 2022, the seasoned player, with seven years under his belt, inked a lucrative three-year contract worth $24 million with the Jaguars upon becoming a free agent. However, he opted to reconfigure the terms of the deal in 2023.

Originally selected as a second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, he had stints with both the Buffalo Bills and the Las Vegas Raiders before joining the Jaguars. His debut season with the team saw him amass a career-best of 823 yards and five touchdowns on 82 receptions across 16 games.
