Jags trade pick with Minnesota Vikings

Jaguars trade back in the first round for the second straight year. The Jaguars traded the 17th overall pick to the Minnesota Vikings, exchanging for the 23rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Building the Bench - Top Prospects

Over the last few months, First Coast News Sports Director Chris Porter has been talking about the Jaguars' top prospects. Here's who he's watching, who has not yet been drafted.

Jer’Zhan Newton

Jer'Zhan Newton is listed at only 6’1 and 300 pounds but he often makes up for it in quickness.

Few pass-rushers get off blocks better than him. Newton likes to win by getting his hands on a blocker and using a push-pull or arm-over. He brings a wide variety of pass-rush moves and counters.

Newton's size and length don't stand out, but he has shown a consistent ability to gain extension and set edges against bigger opponents.

Newton is clever in setting up blockers and beating them with sudden hand usage and foot quickness as both a run defender and a pass rusher.

His skill level and athleticism should create additional playmaking opportunities for him as a three-down three-technique with early starting potential.
