UNF welcomes new president

The first day for new University of North Florida president Dr. David Szymanski was filled with interviews and touring his new campus.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The first day for new University of North Florida president Dr. David Szymanski was filled with interviews and touring his new campus.

The Buffalo native recently left his position at the University of Cincinnati where he was the dean of the business school when UNF offered him the job. Szymanski explained in a one-on-one with First Coast News that he sees the challenges of a growing campus as an opportunity.

A priority for the new president, affordable education.

"A major priority is about scholarships, raising money for scholarships and making it more affordable for students, so that they're not incurring debt and they come to college and it's accessible for them," Szymanski said.

He added he would like to expand community outreach through various programs during his tenure as well.
