Florida Republican Governor Rick Scott announced his victory over incumbent Democratic Senator Bill Nelson for Florida's U.S. Senate seat.
Rick Scott announced at his rally in Naples just before midnight Tuesday night that he had the highly contested race over Nelson.
“These campaigns are divisive...but after they are over we come together.” Scott said in his victory speech.
While Nelson did not issue a formal concession speech, a campaign spokesperson said "This is obviously not the result Sen. Nelson's campaign has worked hard for. The Senator will be making a full statement tomorrow to thank all those who rallied for his cause."
Nelson has served three terms in the U.S. Senate, having taken the seat in 2001.
Scott is finishing his second term as governor, a position he could not run for again due to term limits.
