Victim's family speaks out about woman found dismembered in Tills backyard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the first time since investigators named the human remains found in the backyard of Russell Tillis' home, family members are speaking out.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the first time since investigators named the human remains found in the backyard of Russell Tillis’ home, family members are speaking out.

Robert Gunter's sister Joni was dismembered and buried behind this home that was owned by Russell Tillis.

The home is a place many in this neighborhood called a "house of horrors".

A woman who lives next door says she could hear women screaming from the home.

Investigators says Tillis killed Gunter. They heard his confession after he told a cellmate that was wearing a wire.

Her brother now lives in Arkansas. He says he didn't find out about her body being discovered until last week.

Investigators say Gunter was a transient and her family didn't report her missing.

“My sister had her ups and downs but she was a really good person,” said Robert Gunter.

Robert says they did not report her missing because they thought she would show up again like she always did.

He has this message for Tillis.

“I just want to ask him one question. Why! Why would you do this to my sister. Why? She didn't live the best life but she was a good person,” said Gunter.

This is still a very active investigation. Tillis is charged with murder, kidnapping and other charges.
