PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — TPC Sawgrass festivities on Tuesday included the Military Appreciation Night concert and flyover with F-15 jets from the 125th Fighter Wing of the Florida Air National Guard.
Active duty members from all military branches got to participate in the day’s ceremony.
Among those in the ceremony were Navy sailors deployed at Naval Air Station Mayport.
“To me it means a lot for the country that we signed up for, sign up for every day, going out there every day to protect our country, our shipmates and the people that live here,” Petty Officer Third Class Edwin Gabney said.
Gabney was honored to spend the day with his shipmates at TPC Sawgrass.
Fans enjoyed the events leading up to the golf tournament.
They also had the chance to thank those defending our freedoms.
For staff sergeant Brad Newman, with the Florida Air National Guard, he was thinking about those military members who cannot be on home soil.
“I’m in uniform having a good time, but you have to be thinking somewhere in your heart, 'I hope the men and women forward deployed are safe, having a good day and something brings joy their way,'” Newman said.
