JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in his mid-60's was killed when he walked into the road on San Jose Boulevard Friday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Sgt. Robert Hungerford with JSO says around 6:15 p.m., the man was at a bus stop just north of the intersection of San Jose Boulevard and Hartley Road. When the light turned green, he left the bus stop and walked into traffic.
Hungerford said the outside lane stopped for the man, and the middle lane subsequently stopped as well, but the inside lane couldn't see him due to the stopped vehicles obstructing their view. This is when a car struck him.
The Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department arrived on scene and took the man to the hospital.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
This was the 66th traffic fatality in Jacksonville in 2024 and the 17th involving a pedestrian.
