Update: Brush fire near County Road 214 completely contained after prompting road closures, evacuations

St. Johns County Fire Rescue said people who were evacuated from the area could return to their homes 'imminently' around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — UPDATE: A large brush fire that broke out near County Road 214 in St. Augustine prompting road closures and evacuations has been completely contained, according to the St. Johns County Fire Rescue Department.

Isaac Henson lives on County Road 214 and watched the fire rip through trees across from his house.

"I wasn't scared until I saw it [the fire] cross the road and then I said okay yea I got to take it actually seriously," Henson said.

CR-214 was shut down from Lexington Street to a dirt road east of Power Line Road in St. Augustine due to the brush fire.

It started near the train tracks located in the 1800 block of CR-214, and was reported around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to SJCFR.

Henson said he had to fill buckets of water and put out small fires at the top of his driveway.

"This one actually touched the entire property line along it, and it wasn't the fact that all throughout that way is swamp it probably would have kept spreading," Henson said.

Fire officials say they will continue to monitor the fire overnight.

No injuries have been reported, according to SJCFR.
