Jacksonville police close off parking lot near Southside Target

First Coast News crews observed crime scene tape and JSO detectives on the scene, with one officer picking up what appears to be a bullet casing.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An apparent bullet casing was removed from a parking lot near the Target on Southside Boulevard Wednesday evening.

Detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office were observed taping off portions of the parking lot between the Five Guys and LongHorn Steakhouse Tuesday afternoon.

First Coast News crews were on the scene and captured investigators inside a blocked-off portion of the parking lot, with one officer picking up what appears to be a bullet casing left behind inside one of the parking medians.

The officer then put the object inside an evidence envelope.

Soon after, the officer returned with a metal detector to the same spot where the bullet casing was removed.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said officers responded to a report of a discharging of a firearm. A spokesperson with JSO told First Coast News no news briefing will be held regarding the incident because no one was shot.
