Family of 21-year-old father killed on Christmas Day say there's been an arrest in the case

Baron Dixon is the young father killed on Normandy Boulevard on Christmas Day. He was found dead inside a car.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The family of Baron Dixon says there’s been an arrest in connection to his shooting death.

Dixon is the young father killed on Normandy Boulevard on Christmas Day. He was found dead inside a car.

Investigators say a man was arrested in connection to a shooting in that area on Christmas Day, but did not directly identify the suspect. However, family members tell First Coast News that 21-year-old Talon McClary was the one arrested in connection to the killing.

Baron’s family says Dixon and McClary were acquaintances and knew each other. They say Dixon had purchased a car from McClary.

They say an arrest brings them one step closer to justice, but they say things have been hard to process.

“It’s emotionally draining, and it doesn’t feel any different for me though,” said Haley Barnhill, Dixon’s fiancée.

Barnhill is still trying to comprehend why her 21-year-old fiancé, Baron, was shot to death on Christmas. She says her fiance bought a car from McClary before he was killed.

McClary made a first court appearance Saturday.

“They were acquaintances from car meets they would go to, and they weren’t friends by any means, they definitely knew each other,” said Barnhill.

Baron’s family says they’re thankful for people speaking up and giving police information in their loved one’s shooting death.

“Everyone that has come forward, everyone that has been there to support us, everyone that has helped us try to get justice for Baron, we really appreciate everyone’s help,” said Brandi Kendrick, Baron’s Aunt.

“We just want to thank everyone, it’s definitely not over because we are going on the right direction but we still have a long way to go,” said Barnhill.
