Wrong-way crash on I-295 South seriously injuries one, leaves four others with minor injuries

Charges are currently pending in this case and it is not yet clear if alcohol played a role in the crash.

A wrong-way crash on Interstate-295 South seriously injured one and left four others with minor injuries Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 1:15 a.m., a 2008 Acura TSX was traveling south in the northbound lane when it struck the front of a vehicle driving the correct way, FHP said.

FHP said the Acura then spun clockwise into the path of a third vehicle, hitting that vehicle on its left side.

The Acura then came to a stop facing the wrong way on I-295 South blocking both northbound lanes.

Lanes were closed for two hours as crews worked to clear the scene, FHP said.

The driver of the Acura sustained serious injuries from the crash and was transported to a local hospital.

Four of the five other people involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and were also transported to a local hospital.

Charges are currently pending in this case and it is not yet clear if alcohol played a role in the crash.
