Update | One dead, two injured in shooting on Jacksonville's Westside

The Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department reported taking 3 injured people to the hospital. One of those victims has now died, police said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police have provided an update to a shooting that took place in the 6300 block of San Juan Avenue, near Jammes Road, around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

While the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department reported earlier in the day that three people had been taken to the hospital from the scene, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office now reports one of them has died.

JSO said at a press conference at 7:40 p.m. that in addition to the victim who died, two other victims were in surgery. Police did not have an immediate update on their condition.

The suspect in the case fled on foot, according to JSO.

A police scene was cordoned off at the 2000 block of Jammes Road. Police are continuing to process the scene and comb through surveillance footage.

In a video submitted by First Coast News viewer Charles O MacArthur, recorded from his door at 3:53 p.m., over twenty shots can be heard.

Bill Powers' business is in the same strip mall where the shooting happened.

He said he was sitting at his desk when it happened.

“It was about 4 o’clock doing some extra paperwork.  Next thing you know boom boom boom a whole bunch of gun shots go off," Powers said.

“I got a metal desk fortunately I jumped down behind that and waited for it to stop. I got a bullet in the refrigerator actually," he said.

Powers said he heard several shots from a gun he said sounded more powerful than a handgun.

“At least 30ish [bullets] and I’d say most of them hit the building and cars surrounding at least 20 of them hit there’s all sorts of debris on the building," Powers said.
