When police arrived, they found the victim with multiple stab wounds to his lower back and up to his armpit, the police report says.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A man who allegedly had a knife and over a dozen counterfeit $100 bills was arrested over the weekend following a stabbing in Downtown St. Augustine.

Around 1:40 a.m. on Sept. 15, the St. Augustine Police Department was called to the area of 70 Hypolita St. in reference to a stabbing. When police arrived, they found the victim with multiple stab wounds to his lower back and up to his armpit, the police report says. He was transported to the hospital and listed in stable condition.

Police established a perimeter and began searching the area. Soon after, they were able to locate the suspect, Richard Palmer, hiding in the alley behind Barley Republic, police say.

Police searched Palmer and found a black pocket knife in his front pocket. They also found 13 counterfeit $100 bills in his wallet, police say.

Palmer was arrested and transported to the St. Johns County Jail. Palmer was charged with aggravated battery.

At this time, it remains unclear what caused the stabbing.
