Man hospitalized after Northwest Jacksonville shooting

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the man was hospitalized following the shooting that took place at the intersection of West 19th and Wilson streets Tuesday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was shot and hospitalized Tuesday morning after a shooting took place in Northwest Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO's Sergeant Scott says at around 8 a.m., officers responded to a call of a person shot at the intersection of West 19th and Wilson streets.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department took the man to a local hospital in non-life-threatening condition after he suffered "at least gunshot wound to his foot."

"The initial investigation has revealed the victim was driving a vehicle at the incident location when an unknown suspect exited a vehicle and opened fire striking the victim," Scott tells First Coast News.

JSO says it is working to figure out whether or not the shooting was targeted, as well as trying to determine what direction the suspect traveled in after driving away.

Anyone with information on the incident, is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
