Lake City man 'intoxicated from ingesting mouthwash' accused of trying to kidnap 2 year old at bus station, police say

A Lake City man is accused of trying to take a two-year-old child and threatening to "smack" bystanders, according to the Lake City Police Department.

At 9:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to a disturbance at the Greyhound Bus Station, located 251 S. Marion Avenue, about a disturbance. The victim said they were attempting to exit the bus when Van Fossen "grabbed and picked up the victim’s two-year-old child, police said, and refused to return the child to the victim. 

The victim and another person forcibly removed the child from Fossen.

Fossen snatched a phone from the second victim refusing to return the phone, and threatened to smack the first victim after the child was returned to the victim, police said.

Fossen appeared to be intoxicated from ingesting mouthwash when speaking to officers, LCPD said. Fossen was taken to the local hospital for evaluation, police said.
