JSO: Teen arrested after alleged thieves couldn't drive manual transmission in stolen car

A 16-year-old boy was arrested after he and two other males allegedly stole a vehicle from two people, but the thieves couldn’t drive a stick shift, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 16-year-old boy was arrested after he and two other males allegedly stole a vehicle from two people, but the thieves couldn’t drive a stick shift, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred at about 8 p.m. Monday, where two adult victims met a potential buyer for their Xbox gaming system in the 1000 block of Division Street.

Three unknown men walked up to the victim’s vehicle. A male in a red hoodie pointed a silver handgun into the face of one victim and demanded the Xbox system and for the victims to get out of the vehicle.

Both of the victims got out and ran from the scene and called police.

Police responded and later located a 16-year-old boy in a red hoodie in a wood line. He was detained and investigators searched the nearby area to find a silver handgun.

One of the victims later identified the boy as one of the suspects.

While searching the suspect, officers found a large plastic bag with four smaller plastic bags with marijuana in them.

The victim’s vehicle was located nearby at Live Oak Avenue and Placeda Street. The vehicle was abandoned because the suspects could not drive a manual transmission, according to JSO.

First Coast News is not naming the suspect arrested since he is a minor.

Two suspects are still at large. Anyone with information about those suspects is asked to contact JSO at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
