JSO: Man shot in car in Jacksonville's Argyle Forest area, several detained

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says officers were at a nearby hotel before the shooting occurred Thursday morning due to the alleged drug activity.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in his late-30s is recovering at a local hospital after he was shot while riding in a car in Jacksonville's Argyle Forest area Thursday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO's Sergeant Karen Dukes says around 2 a.m., the sheriff's office was notified of the man who had been shot, and were informed that he was taken to a hospital by Clay County Fire Rescue.

Dukes says the man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being shot once in the leg. She also says there were other people in the car when he was shot, as JSO is now working to learn how many people were in the car as well as their identities.

"Right now, the information that we're getting is that it [the shooting] could've occurred while they were riding in a car around the [Interstate] 295, Collins Road area, but we have not been able to confirm that at this time," Dukes said.

JSO says the man whose identity has not been released, was found shot by Clay County Sheriff's deputies at a home in Clay County.

Dukes says officers were at a nearby hotel, the Red Roof Inn located at 6099 Youngerman Cir., before and after the shooting occurred due to "indications that there could be some drug activity involved [in the incident] as well."

"There was some activity involving the victim and suspect or suspects that were around this Red Roof Inn area on Youngerman Circle," she told First Coast News.

JSO says several people have been detained, as investigators are in the process of talking to witnesses, getting vehicle information and working to obtain surveillance video.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
