JSO: Jacksonville man arrested for manslaughter in 2019 shooting that killed 19-year-old

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man faces manslaughter charges in connection with a 2019 shooting that left a 19-year-old woman dead.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, after an investigation into the shooting on April 29, 2019, police arrested Gary Legg, 24, on manslaughter charges.

Police responded to the 1200 block of Labelle Street in reference to a person who was shot.

Officers found a woman, identified by the Florida Times-Union as 19-year-old Courtney McCoy, suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.

McCoy was taken to the hospital where she died while undergoing surgery.

JSO said several people were inside the residence at the time of the shooting. 

Investigators say it was determined that McCoy was in the same room as Legg when a firearm he was holding discharged, striking her.

Legg was arrested for manslaughter on Tuesday, Jan. 16. 

He is being held on no bond and is set to be in Duval County court on Feb. 7 at 9 a.m.
