Police: Human remains unearthed during construction in Palm Coast

A crime scene is developing in the Tuscana development in Palm Coast, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office said.

PALM COAST, Fla. — Human remains were discovered during construction in Palm Coast, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office said in a release.

FCSO is warning of a large police presence at the crime scene and asking the public to avoid the area of New Leatherwood Drive in the Tuscana development.

A press release by FSCO says that the bones were found on Monday at approximately 4:43 p.m.

Eden's Site Development, the company performing construction there, called after human bone was found.

The investigation is ongoing and FSCO is working with Crime Scene Investigation, Emergency Response Team and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to find answers.

Excavation teams found that the bones belonged to someone who had died relatively recently, but no other information was given.

“We are going to remain on scene until we are able to determine the identity of the person and exactly what happened.” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “At this time we won’t know how these remains got there or if this was a homicide, natural death or suicide. We will do everything we can to identify the remains and bring closure to a family.”
