Woman found dead at Jacksonville gas station identified

Police are still working to uncover what led up to the shooting at a Daily’s gas station off Roosevelt Boulevard that left 32-year-old Demeshia Gainer dead.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police have released the identity of a woman killed at a gas station in Jacksonville’s Lakeshore area.

32-year-old Demeshia Gainer was found dead near a gas pump after a shooting early Saturday morning.

The security cameras at the Daily's Gas station on Roosevelt Boulevard and the customers that visit could play an essential part in helping police find Gainer’s killer.

“You've got a victim, you don’t have a whole lot of information to go on. So you have to rely on the witnesses' statements, you have to rely on surveillance video that was taken," Ken Jefferson, our First Coast News Crime Analyst, said.

The shooting happened around 5:25 on Saturday morning.

According to investigators, surveillance video shows Gainer arriving in a black car. They say the video goes on to show Gainer getting out of the car, and then being shot near a gas pump.

A man was seen leaving in the same car and running from the area according to police.

Multiple witnesses were at the location, but police say a train was passing at the time of the shooting creating a lot of noise. No one saw or heard the shooting.

As of right now, the man is a person of interest. Our crime analyst describes how police will need to uncover more evidence before they can a suspect.

“They have to go through all of the steps and if they do get a suspect, then they’ll make an arrest and charge that person, but you got to make sure that the case is solid as far as the evidence you collected pointing to that individual, so it takes time," said Jefferson.
