The Columbia County Sheriff's Office arrested Jack Rutland after finding four pounds of meth in his vehicle. The shooter's identity was not released.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Columbia County Sheriff's Office said a traffic stop for a busted windshield resulted in the arrest of the driver after four pounds of meth were found, in addition to the arrest of a wanted fugitive from Georgia.

A deputy observed a vehicle with a broken windshield on Interstate-75 Wednesday and conducted a traffic stop, the sheriff's office said. He noticed the car driven by Jackson Rutland, 21, was riddled with bullet holes and blood in the vehicle.

A potential shooter was identified by authorities and led detectives to a possible incident location in Georgia. That suspect was located in Georgia and was arrested, according to the agency. The shooter's name has not been released.

During a search of Rutland’s vehicle, four pounds of meth with an approximate street value of $20,000, was discovered underneath the vehicle’s hood.

Rutland was arrested and transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility without incident.

“This is an example of how proactive law enforcement solves major crimes,” Sheriff Mark Hunter said. “A relatively minor traffic infraction uncovered much more due to the hard work and determination of our deputies and partnering agencies.

The investigation is ongoing.
