Update: Brush fire on Jacksonville's Northside contained, JFRD says

JFRD Captain Eric Prosswimmer said the fire near the 4100 block of Cedar Point Road is cleared and crews with the Florida Forest Service are monitoring the area.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Update: A brush fire that impacted Jacksonville's Northside area has been contained, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

JFRD Captain Eric Prosswimmer says the scene near the 4100 block of Cedar Point Road is cleared and representatives with Florida Forest Service are monitoring the area.

Additional crews were called due to concerns homes nearby could get burned, JFRD said.

Prosswimmer says he expects smoke to remain visible in the area for the next few days. A fireline has been placed around the area so the flames do not expand.

JFRD crews were called to the area around 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

There were five engines, five tankers, and three brush trucks, two chiefs and a drone unit on site who were working to contain the fire.
