Harsh weather across country leads to 14 cancelations at Jacksonville International Airport

Fourteen flights were canceled and 50 were delayed at JAX by five o'clock Monday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Frigid weather conditions across the country caused headaches in Jacksonville.

According to Flight Aware, 14 flights were canceled and 50 were delayed at Jacksonville International Airport.

Some passengers got creative to pass the time.

"We’re delayed by an hour, which seems endless with two young boys," said Marianne Wagner.

Wagner is taking her sons back home to Miami after a successful track meet in Gainesville.

Despite moderate temps across Florida, the trickle-down effect of weather-related cancelations and delays even pushed their flight South back.

“We are playing jump the luggage," said Wagner. "We’re spending the first hour here playing jump the luggage. The next hour, I’m not sure what the next game is going to be.”

Other passengers have even more time to come up with a way to fill, as cancelations at JAX pushed into the double digits.

Larger nearby airports contributed to the issues Monday, as both Orlando and Atlanta had more than five dozen cancelations by three o’clock according to Flight Aware.

a lot of those issues originated elsewhere, Chicago, Dallas and DC saw the majority of their flights either delayed or canceled.

Wagner has a plan to avoid a delay the next time she travels in the winter.

“I should’ve taken the first flight out," said Wagner. "We were delayed coming here as well. It’s just more recently I’ve been delayed, but we usually take the first flight out, so lesson learned.”

At the very least, she’s hoping the delay tuckered out her little track stars so they’ll sleep once they do finally board their flight.

It was just a little over a year ago when nasty weather canceled 20+ flights three days in a row at JAX around Christmas 2022.
