26-year-old motorcyclist killed in wrong-way crash on I-10

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 26-year-old man is dead after a wrong-way driver caused a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 early Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At approximately 4:26 a.m. Saturday, a sedan was heading in the wrong direction, traveling east in the westbound lanes of I-10 near Cassat Avenue in the inside lane, a crash report states.

At the same time, a motorcycle was traveling west on I-10 in the center lane. A second sedan was also traveling west, next to the motorcycle in the outside lane.

As the motorcycle and second sedan were rounding a curve, the sedan traveling in the wrong direction, merged into the center lane and collided with the motorcycle, the report states.

After crashing into the motorcycle, the sedan was redirected into the outside lane and crashed into the second sedan. As a result of the initial crash, the motorcycle also collided with the second sedan.

The 26-year-old motorcyclist died from his injuries, according to FHP.

The 25-year-old sedan driver traveling in the wrong direction was not injured. It is unclear why the driver was driving in the wrong direction.

The 24-year-old driver and 26-year-old passenger in the second sedan were also unharmed in the crash.

The crash shut down all westbound lanes of I-10 for several hours Saturday morning, causing all traffic to be diverted to Luna Street.

All lanes have since reopened.
