FHP: 25-year-old killed after failing to maintain curve in roadway, striking tree in Columbia County

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 25-year-old Lake City man is dead after a single-vehicle crash on County Road 245 in Columbia County Saturday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 1:50 p.m., troopers say a 2006 Chevy Silverado was traveling south on CR-245, also known as SE Price Creek Drive, nearing the intersection of SE Sharon Lane, when the 25-year-old driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road.

The truck continued south, exiting the roadway onto the west shoulder and crashing into a tree, according to FHP.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

A crash report states the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
