JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 61-year-old man died and another man was injured after a three-vehicle crash that shut down part of Butler Boulevard in Jacksonville Friday afternoon.

The crash happened at about 4:45 p.m. on Butler Boulevard near San Pablo Road.

According the Florida Highway Patrol, a red Lexus was driving eastbound on State Road 202 at a 'high rate of speed.' The Lexus attempted to pass an eastbound gray Ford pickup in the left lane. The right front of the Lexus struck the left rear of the Ford and continued past the Ford.

The FHP said, the Lexus then struck the left rear of another vehicle, a black-gray BMW sedan. The impact caused the driver of the BMW, a 68-year-old man, to lose control and hit the concrete median on the front. The driver of the Lexus, a 61-year-old man, also lost control of their car, which overturned several times to the right shoulder of the road.

The driver of the Lexus was pronounced dead the scene. The driver of the BMW was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Neither the driver of the Ford nor his passenger were hurt in the crash.

Butler Boulevard was closed for roughly six hours while authorities cleared the scene. It has since reopened.
