All lanes of Merrill Road reopen days after damage to sewer main shut down eastbound lanes

The Florida Department of Transportation previously said that drivers should expect closures in the area through early May.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — All lanes of Merrill Road reopened Saturday evening after damage to a sanitary sewer main in the area shut down the road's eastbound lanes on Wednesday.

The Florida Department of Transportation said on Wednesday that drivers should expect closures in the area through early May.

But on Saturday, JEA said all eastbound lanes near the intersection of Fort Caroline Road were reopened after the "necessary repairs" were completed ahead of schedule.

The damage to the sewer main on 9834 Merrill Road was done by a third-party contractor, according to JEA.

"We appreciate drivers’ patience during this emergency project and apologize for any inconvenience the construction work may have caused," said JEA Spokesperson Karen McAllister.
