The best in the country: Lily Wachter bounces back at the 2024 Drive, Chip and Putt Tournament

In 2023, Lily competed in the Chip, Drive and Putt tournament and placed 10th. That's when she decided to attend online school to allow more time for golf.

ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. — A young girl made some noise at Augusta National in Georgia.

St. Augustine's own Lily Wachter.

Lily, who is 11-years old won the Drive, Chip and Putt event in her division.

"Wake up, eat, school and then golf," said Lily Wachter. The Drive, Chip and Putt 2024 champion.

Lily loves what she does.

"I've been golfing for seven and a half years," she added.

And she's good at it. Her father, Kevin Wachter introduced her to the game. He admits, she put up a competitive game at a young age.

"Probably when she was 5 or 6 years old when she was making better contact than myself with the ball," said Kevin.

In 2023, Lily competed in the Chip, Drive and Putt tournament and placed 10th.

She said, that's when she decided to commit more time to golf, so she started online school.

"She'll go play the course, she'll go practice the range, she'll go hit the short game," Kevin added, "she'll go hit the putting green, but as long as she keeps liking what she's doing, I'm all for it".

Lily's commitment paid off.

"I went last year, I knew I could do better because I had more experience. I knew what to expect," said Lily.

Lily's golf instructor, Robert Forde said she's very competitive.

"She'll say to coach, 'hey, what was your best round? Okay, I'll go and do that'. So if I shot a 28, she's going to shoot a 27. If I shoot a 64, she's going to shoot a 63," said Forde.

With more time to do what she loves, Lily hopes to become like her idols in the world of golf.

"Nelly Korda and Scottie Scheffler. Scottie Scheffler is on a winning streak right now and that's what I want to be when I grow up".

Lily's dad said she has a very busy schedule coming up this summer.

In July, she'll compete in the Red, White and Blue tournament and she plans on playing in the USA Kids World tournament in August.
