Fletcher Flag Football headed to Elite 8 for the first time after defeating Fleming Island, 33-12

The Fletcher Senators are focused on their upcoming matchup against Pace High School on April 30th at Pace High School, aiming to build on their historic season.

FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. — In a thrilling matchup between the Fleming Island Golden Eagles and the Fletcher Senators, Fleming Island, the state runners-up from 2023, clashed with the Senators, who were seeking to make a significant playoff run for the first time in their history.

The game kicked off with the Senators taking the lead as Jasmine Cross crossed the goal line with a keeper, putting Fletcher ahead 6-0.

Responding swiftly, the Golden Eagles tied the score at 6-6 in the first quarter, with London Jenikins easily scoring from the red zone.

In the second quarter, Fletcher's offense found its rhythm, with Jasmine Cross scoring another touchdown, putting the Senators ahead 12-6.

Utilizing their disappointment from the previous year's early playoff exit as motivation, Fletcher dominated the remainder of the game, ultimately defeating Fleming Island 33-12 and securing a spot in the Elite 8 for the first time in program history.

"We got to the first-round last year and had to go home early. It wasn't great," said Bradley Ashmore, the Fletcher Flag Football Coach. "This year, we've got only four seniors so we're trying to send them off with something to talk about. We've done some things for the first time in Fletcher high school girls flag football history."

Now, Fletcher prepares.

"Mentally getting focused and focusing on things that we did great today and continue to do them," said Jasmine Cross, the starting quarterback for the Fletcher Senators.

Looking ahead, the Fletcher Senators are focused on their upcoming matchup against Pace High School on April 30th at Pace High School, aiming to build on their historic season.
