Edward Waters Lady Tigers gear up for redemption in face of unexpected season challenges

Coach Charmaine Wilson emphasizes the significance of the home court advantage, expressing confidence in her senior-heavy team.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In the midst of an 8-16 season, the Edward Waters Lady Tigers candidly acknowledge that their performance has not unfolded as anticipated.

However, anyone assuming that the team is devoid of determination and fight would be sorely mistaken, as Head Coach Charmaine Wilson's squad remains resolute and eager to turn the tides.

On Saturday, the Lady Tigers are poised to host the formidable Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley State University, a crucial matchup that presents an opportunity for redemption. With a two-game slide haunting them, the Edward Waters team is keen on halting the descent and building momentum as they approach the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Tournament.

Despite the challenges faced, EWU fans can find solace in the team's impressive home record of 7-4 this season. Coach Wilson emphasizes the significance of the home court advantage, expressing confidence in her senior-heavy team's ability to harness the energy of the home crowd and deliver a stellar performance.

"I was expecting immediate success, although I did have double figure wins, it wasn't a good flow," Wilson said.

"I had to take a step back, reflect a lot and thought, 'what could I have done better?' It's a learning curb for me, but I've been very successful and very blessed to be in this position at Edward Waters for 13 seasons."

Wilson said late in the season, the team had a "come to Jesus" meeting. That's when things started to turn around. He said it was the perfect time.

The upcoming matchup is not merely a game but a pivotal moment for the Lady Tigers to showcase their mettle, reclaim their winning form, and carry a renewed sense of momentum into the SIAC Tournament.

Despite the unexpected twists and turns of their season, the upcoming clash against Fort Valley State University is not only an opportunity to break a two-game slide, but also a chance for the team to reestablish their dominance and make a formidable run in the postseason.

The resilience displayed by the senior-heavy roster and the comfort of playing on their home court add an extra layer of anticipation for fans, as they eagerly await the Lady Tigers' resurgence in the face of adversity.
