ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — A Florida man won big by playing the Florida lottery.

According to a press release, 36-year-old Sean Wickson of Englewood won a $1 million prize by playing 500X THE CASH Scratch-Off game. He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $820,000.

He bought the ticket from Englewood Sunoco off of Placida Road in Grove City, the Florida Lottery said. The Sunoco location is receiving a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning scratch-off.

500X THE CASH is a $50 scratch-off game and features the largest-ever top prize for a Florida scratch-off game at $25 million. The Florida Lottery says the game has the best overall odds of winning at 1-in-4.50.

However, the odds of winning the $25 million prize are far less than the overall odds of winning at all. Players have a 1-in-21,920,355 shot at winning the grand prize. Two grand prizes are available and have not yet been won.

The odds at winning the $1 million prize that Wickson won are much better. 160 $1 million prizes are available, and as of this writing, 152 of those prizes remain. The odds of winning $1 million are 1-in-274,004.

Other prizes are as follows:

  • $50,000 | 1-in-117,851
  • $20,000 | 1-in-20,166
  • $10,000 | 1-in-201,101
  • $5,000 | 1-in-6,008
  • $1,000 | 1-in-1,001
  • $500 | 1-in-46
  • $100 | 1-in-5

According to the Florida Lottery, scratch-off tickets comprise of approximately 72 percent of ticket sales as of 2022-2023. More than $59 billion in prizes have been awarded, and the lottery has generated more than $18 billion for the state's Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
