VERIFY: Claims made in the debate for Jacksonville mayor

Did Anna Brosche not file a single piece of legislation pertaining to public safety?

Is Jacksonville really paying more than three times the value of the Jacksonville Landing Property?

Anna Brosche made the claim, after mayor Lenny Curry’s office announced a plan to tear down the Jacksonville Landing, including $15 million to reclaim the property from Jacksonville Landing Investments.

That is true. According to information on the property appraiser’s website

The assessed market value of the Jacksonville Landing is just under $4 million.

Have there been 350 murders under Curry’s tenure?

That is true. There have been more than 350 murders in Jacksonville while Curry has been in office according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Was January 2019 the deadliest on record?

That is false. That’s taken from a News4Jax article that says January 2019 had 17 homicides. January 2006 also had 17 homicides, and January 2008 had 18, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Did Anna Brosche not file a single piece of legislation pertaining to public safety?

Curry made the claim during Wednesday’s debate.

The online database of city council legislation reveals eight ordinances and resolutions, none of which appear to pertain to crime or law enforcement.

Brosche tells First Coast News her ordinance on public service grants directly relates to public safety. The legislation mentions it explicitly.
